How I work

We all have moments where life feels overwhelming; times when you are stuck in the thick or it and simply can’t see the wood for the trees. When you’re caught in the middle of a difficult season, trying to meet everyone else’s expectations, it’s hard to know which way to turn or what even matters most.

My goal is to provide a calm, non-judgmental space where we can step back together. By gaining a bit of distance and perspective, we can begin to clear the path forward, helping you reconnect with a life that feels genuinely your own.

Ann Moorhouse, a professional psychotherapist offering dedicated online and outdoor counselling in Nottingham.

My approach

Whether you are seeking short-term counselling to navigate a specific crossroads or longer-term psychotherapy to explore deeper life experiences, I offer a flexible approach. Together, we work completely at your pace moving from immediate relief to lasting, meaningful change.

Using the phrase ‘can’t see the wood for the trees’ in my practice is deeply intentional. I used those exact words myself years ago to explain to my own therapist how overwhelmed I felt by everything happening in my life. I understand firsthand that when you’re stuck, endless Google searches, asking AI or looping in friends and family for advice can only take you so far and it often just adds to the noise. You need a safe space to talk things through, where you can separate your worth from your performance and have a steady professional in your corner as you find your feet again.

Navigating Grief, Loss and Life Transitions

Grief is rarely a straight line and it is never limited to the physical loss of a person. Backed by specialised training and experience through my work with Cruse Bereavement Support, I hold a dedicated space for all forms of bereavement, as well as the hidden losses that often go unacknowledged by the world around us:

Living Losses: the profound grief that comes with major life shifts such as the ending of a long-term relationship, a career change that shakes your identity, leaving behind old versions of yourself to please others, or navigating the complexities of family boundaries as you gain independence in adulthood. You are allowed to mourn the life you thought you would have.

Disenfranchised Grief: this is the pain of losses that society sometimes fails to openly validate or understand. It could be the complex grief of infertility or pregnancy loss, a fractured family dynamic or the quiet, gradual transition of a friendship group you thought was around to stay.

There is no right or wrong way to grieve and you don’t have to justify your sadness to me. We will work at your pace, giving you an unhurried space to speak about your loss openly and figure out how to navigate life alongside it.
