Christmas Therapy Session

One online session before Christmas, for the conversations you're dreading.

You’re not the only one dreading Christmas

You may have reached this page because some part of you is already bracing for the questions. ‘So, when are you settling down?’ before you've even booked the train home. Rehearsing an answer to ‘what's next for you?’ in the car on the way, just in case.

This page is for a single, one-off online Christmas therapy session, for exactly that kind of dread. It's one 50-minute online session to help you work out how to handle Christmas this year, separate from ongoing therapy and built for this time of year specifically.

Christmas can bring up family expectations, comparison, and the feeling that nothing much has changed, all inside one week. There can be a pressure to enjoy all of it, when really the main job is getting through it.

Maybe it's the questions about settling down, or what's next for your career. Maybe it's sitting at a table where you feel eighteen again, no matter how much you've built since then. Maybe it’s hearing about your friends’ wins for the year in the pub, wondering when you got left behind and trying your best to put a brave face on and celebrate with them. Maybe it's just the effort of being ‘on’ for days on end, when honesty about how flat it all feels would be a relief.

What Christmas can bring up

What you want to happen instead at Christmas

You might want to walk in with an answer ready, instead of finding one on the spot in front of everyone. You might want a way to hold a boundary without it turning into a thing. Or you might just want somewhere to say the parts you can't say at home, before having to go and be pleasant and polite about it.

What an online Christmas therapy session can offer

This is an opportunity to get clear before Christmas rather than during it. In the session, there's space to:

  • get clear on what's actually making this hard

  • think through the questions you're dreading and what you'd like to say to them

  • work out what you'd rather not get into, and how to hold that boundary kindly

  • say the things you haven't found a way to say at home

It's a one-off. It isn't ongoing therapy, and it isn't trying to stand in for it if that's what's actually needed.

Who this is for

This session suits people in their twenties and thirties who, on paper, are doing fine, and who still feel the familiar dread at the thought of Christmas with family and friends. There's no need to be struggling badly to book one. Wanting to get through the week without it costing something is reason enough.

It isn't a crisis service. Anyone in crisis should call Samaritans free on 116 123, any time of day.

If you want to explore something longer than a one-off session then you can find more info on therapy for your 20s and 30s here.

About me

I'm Ann, an integrative therapist with person-centred roots, and a BACP Registered Member and Accredited Registrant with the NCPS. I work with 20 and 30-somethings who've ticked every box and still feel off.

Do I need to be struggling badly?

No. ‘Everything’s fine and I’m dreading it’ is a good enough reason.

Is this the same as ongoing therapy?

No. It’s a single, separate session focussed on getting you through Christmas not an alternative to longer-term therapy.

Is it confidential?

Yes, in the same way as any therapy session.
